Systems engineering is the interdisciplinary science of designing, realizing, applying, and removing of complex technical systems within large projects. Applied to manufacturing sciences is considers design, realization, use, and removal of product and production systems combining mechanics, electrics, and information sciences within a life cycle spanning system of system consideration.  Within the master program Systems Engineering for Manufacturing a method based and skill-oriented training will provide students with knowledge and skills to work within such projects. Graduates of the Master's degree Systems Engineering for Manufacturing can, depending on their disposition and module selection, work as generalists fulfilling roles like project manager, data curator, or engineering process manager or a specialist taking roles like discipline principal, tool specialist or basic systems engineer.

As the master program Systems Engineering for Manufacturing is not taking an industrial focus, graduates of the Master's degree Systems Engineering for Manufacturing can work in nearly any producing industry including machine and plant engineering and construction, automotive industries, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, food industries, space and aircraft industries, mining, steel and iron industries, textile industries, electric industries, medical technology industries, investment and consumer goods industries, and beyond. Application fields can be found in all sizes of companies and all types of company businesses along the industrial value chain including but not limited to device vendors, component vendors, system integrators, engineering service providers, design offices or producing companies.  Due to the orientation of the studies towards international research and a global context of engineering as well as the use of English as language of instruction graduates are able to work competent on engineering projects in international teams all over the world.
